Introducing Material Design to Linux

Michael Spencer has decided to build his own operating system, called Quantum OS. What's going to be special about it? Michael decided to base the desktop design of Quantum OS on Material Design, which was introduced by Google in Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The distribution itself will be based on Arch or Ubuntu (my personal guess is Arch, but as far as I know it has not been decided yet), and the desktop framework is aiming to be built on top of the QtCompositor API, which provides a Qt framework for building a Wayland compositor.

What is the best on Michael's effort is that he's going to make Quantum Desktop in a way that it works on every Linux distribution which supports Wayland. I think that this is very good idea and I'm very excited to try to integrate it into Slax instead of KDE.

Dear Tomas M,

Firstly, thanx 4 your cute little Slax OS!
Secondly, it's great you're going to try something new.

I doubt you'll find super-programmers here: thus, you can not expect to hear a real tip on whether your new QT-based slax will fly well or not.

the only thing I can think of is: QT desktop ate more resources than even LXDE and was not highly configurable. So anyway, hope you know what you're doing.
Plus, your os is built on slackware - wich is great :) If you'll ever decide to gradually move to google-things in the future (android-like) - it might be risky for you (users may not like to have yet another google-gadget)

Good luck w your new os/desktop,

Hi there! i'm interested in-to translate or help to you (slax team) for some modules or packages for this distro, so, can i help you?

Hello Tomas, it's good to see that you are planning a new Slax release.

Well, I like KDE, but it's a personal preference. There are other desktops to try:

MATE: http://mateslackbuilds.github.io/
CINNAMON: https://github.com/willysr/csb
E18: http://slacke18.sourceforge.net/

Also, I see that Linux 3.18 was released and it includes Overlayfs by default http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.18#head-f514a511bf32b818dbde50c24a51fb095e81cc8e
Would it be a good replacement for AUFS?

Hi Tomas,

Will the modules for the new version of Slax be compatible with version 7.0.8., so that I will able to continue updating where necessary?
I recently re-installed Slax 7.0.8. and had remove all my files and bookmarks from my previous OS and to transfer everything to Slax 7.0.8. I wouldn't want to do it again anytime soon, meaning, I intend to keep Slax version. 7.0.8. at least until the middle of next year, even with the release of a new version of Slax.

Thanks,

M.

Update : Quantum OS is now Papyros (due to a name conflict with a trademarked product) and is located at
