Slax with kernel 3.6.2

Linux kernel 3.6. has been released two weeks ago, yet I've been waiting for AUFS to update. That happened yesterday and I've tweaked build scripts for Slax kernel to work for 3.6. As usual, you can find source codes for Slax kernel at ftp.slax.org (only http access). You can also get precompiled kernel for both the architectures (32bit and 64bit) here.

You can download latest test version of Slax with 3.6.2 kernel here:
Slax 7.0 Xorg 32bit ISO kernel 3.6.2
Slax 7.0 Xorg 32bit TAR kernel 3.6.2
Slax 7.0 Xorg 64bit ISO kernel 3.6.2
Slax 7.0 Xorg 64bit TAR kernel 3.6.2

When booting up from cd, I get
/mnt/memory/slax not found several times. Then it boots normally. What is it looking for?

Also firefox 16 was updated, firefox15 is present in iso. Will next release carry latest & greatest?

Thanks Tomas. Other than that, when shutting down like you mention in other posts, the /mnt/ busy message has gone away :) Great job in the bug fixing category.

Thanks!

Antonio

Thank you very much for your feedback. Where do you get the message /mnt/memory/slax not found ? I don't see it while booting from CD. What ISO are you using? 32bit or 64bit?

Ah ok I was able to locate it. It happens if you have actually some hard drives on your computer, it mounts the partition and searches for /slax/*.sb inthere, it reporst no such file or directory if you don't have /slax/ directory there. Silly me :) It'll be fixed in next release.

32bit version is ok for me.

The slax directory detection problem with old slax version fixed now when i use slax 7 on usb flash drive using extlinux and Ext2.

But frugal mode install (Slax installed on part on hard drive launched by Grub Legacy menu.lst), is always problematic...

Impossible to run slax 7 Frugal.

Please make firefox bundle standalone for final version like in slax 6.

Hi Mr Tomas_M!

1. Many of people use in daily work on Flash drive two or more OS and utilites(*nix, windows, *dos...)

And put all files (ISO, IMG, BartPE) for beauty in one folder (for example /boot)

In /boot peoples have many other directories: acronis, easeus, winPE, slax6.0, slax7.0...

SLAX dir = /boot/slax7.0

SLAX7 will be a param there find the main file? (for example slax_sgn=/boot/slax7.0)

That would be great))))

2. In Slax7 you use SYSLINUX
What about grub4dos (chenall)? IMHO he is much better :)

Sorry for my learned many years ago in school English (I'am from Russia: bears, vodka, matreshka, El'tsin, balalayka... :-)

P.S. sorry)))
3. Did we see a Slax without FireFox?

SHELLes 2012-10-15 08:42

P.P.S. sorry again
In previos commect i found

Or you need (as far as I understand) a way to run Slax from different locations (using the 'from' cheatcode)? How do you prefer to use the cheatcode? eg. from=/dev/sda1/slax7/ ? or from=/slax7/ ?
===============
Best way cheatcode from=/boot/slax7.0/ (as well as in Slax6)

How hard will it be to make Firefox a module, Firefox is pushing updates very often and if it ia part of apps we can't upgrade it.

Tomas M 2012-10-18 09:49

Actually I'm planing to use Chrome in Slax, not firefox. But it's not certain yet.

Bhatix 2013-01-19 15:35

How do one put their own modules (lzms) ?
I did not find the commands like lzm2dir/dir2lzm etc in slax7

Thanks
