End of the world is today

As you probably know, today is the end of the world. At least some people say, according to some misinterpreted calculations of ancient Maya people. If you belong to those deluded individuals who believe that they're going to die today, I wish you a happy death and pleasant afterlife. To others, I wish you marry Christmas or holidays or however you call the upcoming times, and see you tomorrow :)

Edit: Bernado Bastres (a priest from Punta Arenas) admits that he has no problem when people sell their entire belongings and give the money to the church, while expecting the world to end today. Why that doesn't surprise me? :)

End of the world?
We shall see tomorrow. I believe that a cycle ends and a new cycle will begin. Some say that ``The Age of Aquarius'' is coming!, and many good things shall happen, and some bad. But this happens everyday too!

Derek 2012-12-21 08:32

Many hapy returns!!!
To quote a mediocre at best 70's Broadway musical: "This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius!" (I promise I am completely clothed when I say this- unlike the musical!)

PS, About the icons, I didn't expect you to respond so fast, so I am in a hurry organising my work, picking out the stuff thats good enough to show you. Forgive my star-struckness, your somewhat of a celebrity around here. Getting an email from you is like getting an email from Linus Torvolds himself!

In the faithful search of Slack,
Derek

Guess Congress thought the world will end today and forgot about the taxes.

@Tomas M

The end of my world just happened!!
Despite even formating the USB flash drive and copying a fresh slax, my flash drive can not boot my laptop anymore, and i got this error and boot screen never continue to slax graphical Desktop!!:

"Faral Error occured - Can't find executable chroot command Someting went wrong & we can't continiue. This should never happen.
Please reboot your computer with Ctrl+Alt+Delete ..."

** p.s. before the last healthy reboot, I got few modules (for bluetooth and a third party Opera version) and erased few modules manualy by deleting them from flashdrive:\slax\modules just too speed up boot ups.

Please help me, I am in a big trouble now!

you're forgetting something: sunday is "the day after tomorrow" where the world ends again! :D

Modules ... categories ... hmm.
Hidden at the bottom, in light green, is a single line: "Note that Modules section is still under construction."

"Under Construction" should be large print diagonally across the display of Modules categories, like a watermark, in bright warning colors. Keep expectations at a realistic level, and keep enthusiasm building.

It installs easily on a flash stick. It boots. Video and audio can be easily be adjusted. Pretty much everything is (currently) up-to-date. The knife handle has taken shape; many blades will follow. In time, presentation and polish can develop. Community can thrive.

Unless you paint yourself into a corner ... and run out of rock!

Fellow 2012/12/21 Survivor [update] 2012-12-21 17:56

Modules: "Read the documentation in order to understand how to use and even build and share your own Slax modules."

Documentation/Modules: "This section will explain how to work with modules in Slax from the user perspective."

Saman, what did you format your USB drive as?

Try formatting as NTFS and copy the slax files over then run the bootinst.bat.

pistal 2012-12-21 20:30

@ Saman

I had the same problem - I think because I use USB drive with different computers ( maybe its a matter of "persistent changes").
Then I make Slax USB drive again - without formatting (FS is FAT32) and it worked OK.

Tomas M 2012-12-21 20:51

FAT32 is preferred over ntfs, since it is a native filesystem supported by Linux kernel. NTFS requires fuse driver, which of course works as well but is somehow slower (mostly due to the fact NTFS is a more complicated filesystem than FAT32)

guttaslax 2012-12-21 23:45

I'd like to believe the world is safe now :-/

Saman 2012-12-22 00:36

Dear Mark,
I used Fat32 as it is faster on MS windows however, The issue still persists.
As the matter of fact, I noticed that despite very different changes (Format & re-building the fresh slax on primary flash drive, even changing the flash drive) gave me the same boot screen, i mean that all of erased modules were still there left unerased
So i guess that the issue is related to some persistant finger prints kept in bios or something .

please help me fix thisill shire shown on boot screen prepration (although there were no

Saman 2012-12-22 05:24

@pistal
I do not know what to say I tried many ways only on one computer, I rebuilt the fresh new slax.
It was really surprising when I saw that even after making a fresh new slax all previous modules that were installed on previous slax still appeared on boot list.

>>> And I strongly believe that this issue is only because previous changes still persist on the system <<<

Please help me fix the slax, I am really sad. Feel like loosing a good friend :'((((((

jcsoh 2012-12-22 05:37

@ saman

Go to /mnt/live/memory/modules
See if the old modules is there. If so delete it.

pistal 2012-12-22 09:13

@ saman

also remove /slax/changes/changes.dat after boot in other LINUX or Window$

saman 2012-12-22 09:57

@pistal
there were no directory found in mnt folder.

please keep in mind that i erased the primary slax by formatting the usb memory in fat32 and placed a fresh copy instead.
so there must be a virgin slax on my usb memory, while seeing all of modules that belong to primary slax in the following folder

Mark De Silva 2012-12-22 11:19

Saman, you didn't by chance install to hard drive did you? There is absolutely no way your modules can still be active if you formatted your drive and even change the usb stick.Take the same stick that is giving you problems and try to boot on another PC and see if it works.

A. KADALKA 2012-12-22 14:35

@Saman
I wonder if you just take your USB before it is safe to take it...

@Tomas M
We all know that it won't be the end of the day.
For the Maya it is the same as 31 dec at midnight for us...
Unfortunately people do not try to be correctly informed...

saman 2012-12-22 22:26

Dear Mark,
I did not install it on hard drive, i can not understand why a "portable" OS, remembers every details of previous copy while it is completely erased and replaced by the virgin decompressed slax??!?
let me explain that before the last good boot, i decided (as an experiment) to remove few components from modules folder to make slax boot faster,once i restarted the slax to see the effect unfortunately it never boot again...
And when i wantet to remove those malfunctioning modules from slax they acted like readonly system files.

A. KADALKA 2012-12-22 22:56

@saman

I suspected that you double click something like ./bootinst.sh ...

Tomas M 2012-12-22 23:01

@saman: When Slax starts, it mounts all partitions (including your hard disk) to see if there is a /slax/ directory with Slax bundles in it. If you are sure that your USB disk has only fresh slax installed, then it is fairly possible that Slax starts from the USB disk, but then finds your hard drive first and uses data from there.

Make sure you don't have any directory like C:\slax or D:\slax etc (if you're in windows). If this is not the case and you're sure there is no slax directory anywhere and no CD with Slax in the drive, then it is a mystery :)

Saman 2012-12-22 23:35

Dear Tomas,

Thanks for your feedback, you are right. I just copied the modules folder of my slax on hard drive as a backup. after putting them to a zip folder and erasing those backups, the access of slax was eliminated so slax came back to life.
Now I am writing this post using my FF on slax.

I appreciate if you mention this secret on documentations to avoid any further conflicts for any slax fan ;)

A. KADALKA 2012-12-23 12:58

@Tomas M
Does @Saman issue occur even if the directory name is \slax7 or \slax6 ? 8-O
