Slax 9.6.0 released

I am happy to announce that a new version of Slax Linux is available for download. It features updates for all included packages, and fixes PXE boot support, so it is now possible to boot Slax over network again. There is also a 'pxe' script included, which you can execute on a running Slax to start a pxe server (it will auto-assign a random IP address from range 10.0.0.x). In order to download Slax, visit the newly redesigned website at www.slax.org

Enjoy the new release! :)

Hello Tomas,

Since it is soon xmas, I have a question for 2019 already.

Are there any major changes upcoming, e. g. what you may
think about? I understand that the project was not very active
for some time; I remember several years ago we had a part
of the homepage dedicated to modules. And while I do not
remember everything in detail (my brain is no longer asgood
as it used to be), I am very certain that I could re-master the
version of Slax I was using - I think I put openoffice and
some more stuff on it back then.

Right now I am not sure if the same functionality is available
as-is (perhaps it may be somewhere written down, but the
website also changes and I am not sure where to then look
again).

At any rate, keep up the spirit of slax! \o/

Slax follows Debian stable release cycle, that means it updates every time Debian pushes a new version (minor or major). Currently there is no release date set for next major update.

There is no need for a web repository with modules since Slax fully supports 'apt' command. Installing new software in Slax is as simple as 'apt install libreoffice' and you're ready to go. Furthermore it is possible to use 'savechanges' script in slax to make a module from your current Slax state. I should write a documentation about this I think :)

Thank you, nice news
I have a question is there a way to boot in Copy to Ram mode with and without previously saved changes according to our needs ? i mean an option to run a fresh copy to Ram or a saved copy to Ram.

Thomas, I've enjoyed Slax for many years. I'm just wondering if you might be planning on a name change since it's no longer based on Slackware?

@Tiger Island
these options can be combined only if you manually adjust the boot command line, specify slax.flags=perch,toram ... But I didn't test it yet

@Gerard
I've set up a Patreon page where users can contribute financially to the project. I've also set up a milestone that if there is more than 1000 active patreons, I will make Slax based on Slackware again. So for now I'll keep the name and wait few years for patreons to join :)
