Slax RC2 and weekly update #11
I've been mostly fixing and improving the RC1 version of Slax. I would like to thank to everybody who tested it and provided valuable feedback. Thanks to you, Slax can be always better than before.
Download current Slax release
Changelog:
The boot installer script has been fixed and updated. One of the most common problem (as it seems to me) nowadays is the strange behavior of some automounting programs, such as udisks, which mount FAT filesystem with showexec parameter. Due to that, only files with windows extensions (BAT, COM, EXE) are treated as executable. To make it simpler, I managed to write bootinst.bat script so it executes in both Linux and Windows. This should make things easier.
I've added ModemManager and related dependencies, including broadband provider info data, so it should be now easier to connect to the internet using a modem. This was heavily requested by the users, I didn't realize how many people use modem internet connection.
KDE desktop was updated to the latest stable version 4.9.3.
When Slax reboots or shuts down, it now automatically ejects CD (in case it was actually started from it), so the user can remove the medium before the actual shutdown. Busybox's eject command has probably no support for newer CDROM devices or the SATA interface, I don't really know. So I had to statically compile 'eject' command as external binary from sources, and this eject works just fine. If you're running Slax from USB drive then it doesn't (shouldn't!) eject any CD, of course :)
Finally, some of the missing or broken dependencies were fixed, so Flash Player now works in FireFox (missing libcurl and libldap was added), KDE can mount Windows shares (missing libsmbclient was added), and FireFox is no longer missing libnotify.

Great job !
Are you thinking to replace Xorg with wayland compositor in a future release ?
Thank you !

Slax 7 looks awesome! I'm also enjoying your openness and frequent posts about current progress. Keep up the good work Tomas.
Some bug report.
I have a problem with USB WiFi dongle in RC2. The dongle based on Realtek RTL8192 chip (VID:7392; PID:7622). iwconfig/ifconfig shows nothing, but I can see it in KInfoCenter. Maybe it lacks firmware or something?
Also, when I removed dongle from USB port, Slax did a kernel panic.

Slax 7rc2 looks awesome! I'm also enjoying your openness and frequent posts about current progress. Good work Tomas
Any plan to add a installer or an easy option to update & install packages?
Please Many people have asked before too
please listen
Big Thanks for modem packages

Still can't run graphic on my Netbook EEE PC 1215BX with ATI Radeon 6290 on APU AMD C-60.
Can't wait to try Slax 7, please add the graphic drivers Tomas :)

Hey man how to install this on my laptop?
could not see the install option
Also how to add another FileManger like PcmanFm? or update the packages installed?
Sorry if Noob question

@stk: I don't know how or what drivers you need, sorry. You'll have to find a solution yourself and then let me know what should I add to Slax to make it work on your particular hardware.

I have an error with bootinst.sh, launch with bootinst.bat or ./bootinstall.sh->same error

Good job. Will there be any way to recompile kernel to include proprietary drivers?

@ Tomas
I guess the ATI (not only my hardware) drivers are these xf86-video-ati-6.14.4-i486-1.txz and a utility to control the external display is radeontool-1.6.1-i486-1.txz
Hope it helps

@stk: video-ati-driver is included in Slax. Radeontool is included too. Unfortunately your 'guess' won't help me much, I need you to actually know how to fix the problem, since I don't have your hardware here to test.

@Tomas M I've been running Slax-7 the past few days as a frugal install with no issues. It's remarkably faster than Slax-6 and very close to a Slitaz install that I run.
@Everyone clamoring for HD installs,
Slax-6 was never intended to be installed to HD, I suspect that Tomas has not changed his views with Slax-7.
Really, it's not like it's hard to do a frugal install, there are also a lot of benefits to a frugal as opposed to a HD install.
Besides......if you can't perform a frugal install.....you have no business messing with partitioning a HD.....I suspect it would only lead to whining that Slax screwed your puter.

@ [5] Michael
It appears the rtlwifi rtl8192cu driver provided with 3.4.9 kernel doesn't work.
The main characteristic of the bug is that you're unable to connect to a WIFI router/hot spot.
This chipset can be found in lot of usb wifi dongle and of course .... i've got one too !
Fortunately, Realteck provides its own driver witch fully operates but you ned to download sources and compile it yourself.
You need to blacklist the kernel one first and use the 8192cu ( new name ) one.

@Tomas
i see that you are still against including kernel-firmware package in the slax which would solve all wireless and radeon GPU driver issues (yes - kernel firmware include also fw for GPU cards, look at /lib/firmware/radeon folder from 'kernel-firmware' package).
is these few extra MB really worth user troubles?
btw: deleting 128x128 size of oxygen icons causes blurry user experience. you decide.

Worth mentioning here that the firefox cache is also 'dynamic' sized, and by default can grow to 1024mb, which has to be accomodated by changes.dat. If you fill a partition with this, slax acts very weird.
Otherwise, very nice. I wonder if we will see the 32b compat libraries added? I need wine and some windows apps.

@ [22] Slaxeee
Thanks for the info. I'll try to compile it, unless there's no other option.
By the way, this dongle worked out of the box, when I tried Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 and latest Porteus. The last two should have quite a modern kernel. Do you think they used Realtek driver?

Hi Tomas.
I'm really impressed with your work. I've tested it using virtualbox and works like a charm.
Expecting the final version.
Bye

Hi Tomas:
This release has some new problems that didn't happen with first RC:
1- My Wireless networks adapters are not detected anymore
(Intel 3945ABG and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235)
2-SD Cards are not detected anymore
3-Some kinds of hidden windows partitions (recovery) also are not detected anymore.
BTW I beg again for "from=slax.iso" cheatcode. For using the same data in VMWare and native.
Thanks!

I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!
but i want the spanish vercion TT_____TT
I look forward x333
sorry, my english is very bad D:

@kamikaze: Si tú sabes hacerlo por favor dime cómo. Intenté usar grub4dos y sólo funciona en XP, no en Win7 (dice que grldr está dañado o no existe). Gracias!

@hiraion
At least you can set the keyboard to Spanish. Then make the changes persistent.

it will be fine if you add liloinst.sh and liloinst.bat to slax because older bioses can't boot grub and similar. Thanks for professional and useful job.

@ [26] Michael
I encountered same problem with Porteus 1,2 32bit edition ( i didn't try 64 one ). Porteus use native kernel (3.4.9) and i had to compile additional module. Realtek provide several drivers for 8192 due to variation ( cu/su/.... ) and capabilities ( mimo, ...)
The Kernel one seems not to be sensitive to all variations and attempt to "unify" them. Sometimes it works, sometimes not ... I suppose Ubuntu was patched.

Hi! I'm new to linux and trying to connect to my wpa wifi network but to no avail. Slax was able to detect my broadcom wireless card. It seems that slax had no gui for connecting to my wpa wifi network.

Tomas,
Using bootinst.bat/sh from a USB 32 and 64 bit under Linux failed.
I have only a X11 empty console open

I confirm failure of booting from USB 32 bit under OpenSuse.
I had to activate bootinst.bat in Windows virtual machine.

to resolve driver issues, see comments from 'tdmsilvino' under RC1 blog-post - get slackwares firmware package and install with installpkg.
At least for newer Intel wireless adapters, Slax does not include the microcode needed - check with 'dmesg | grep iwlwifi', it should tell you which file (ucode) you need. Then find the file somewhere (I used git.kernel link from one of Tomas' older posts, beware of bad download), copy it to /lib/firmware/ and do 'modprobe -r iwlwifi && modprobe iwlwifi'.
This solves it for me. If running from RAM, you can make it permanent by including the ucode in a Slax bundle. Simply create a (fake) 'lib/firmware' directory structure somewhere (eg. /home), put ucode file in there, and make a Slax bundle with f.ex. 'dir2sb lib/firmware 20-wifi.sb -keep-as-directory'. Now just include the new bundle (20-wifi.sb) in Slax directory on your boot-media before reboot.
I agree with fanthom, wifi not working might scare away a lot of people, which is bad for such a brilliant distro. But carrying all those blobs in core, no thanks! Maybe 7 could get a place in the old slax-forum at least. The comments are slowly outgrowing this blog and it's hard to find something you know is there.

Regarding bootinst.bat ... I just tried to use it in 32bit version of Slax (within Slax) and it worked just fine. I'm going to install opensuse to test.

My wireless iwl3945 still does not work. Same error as slaxuser [post #24]. Installed the firmware package from slackware (as dimitrij [post #40] suggested), but still no WiFi. It is just not worth the trouble.
I already found that Porteus 1.2 and SystemRescueCD 3.1.1 work with iwl3945, will use those if WiFi is needed.

Regarding bootinst problem: I've installed openSUSE and the bootinst.bat works just fine. Device is bootable. So can't reproduce the problem
Regarding WIFI: the problem is that even including all 20MB of firmware drivers to Slax won't help everybody, so I decided not to include it at all. There will be a separate module with the firwmare files in the future. Every device should be supported by additional modules (bundles), if there is a Linux support for it. It will just take some time and will require volunteers who will make it work.

@Tomas
I would try to install proprietary drivers by command line, but I can't even get regular terminal, tried several resolutions and the boot option with no graphic environment, but it always crashes. With out at least shell I can't do nothing unfortunaly :(
PS: Just tried Slax 6.1.2 and it works just fine, anything I can pull from logs to help you?

@stk: description of problem "it crashes" seems invalid. Would you please describe to me what actually really happens when it "crashes" ? Did you try to press Esc during Slax startup and uncheck the option "Graphical desktop" in the boot menu?

>Regarding bootinst problem: I've installed openSUSE and the >bootinst.bat works just fine. Device is bootable. So can't >reproduce the problem
I can now run bootinst.bat from Kubuntu, the terminal informs me that the boot sector has been copied successfully:
* attempting to install bootloader to ....
. is device /dev/sdc1
* setup MBR on /dev/sdc
* set bootable flag for /dev/sdc1
Boot installation finished.
Press Enter...
but then the BIOS can not find anything to boot from Pendrive. If I run the bootinst.bat again I get the same message above. That is, it not reporting that the pendrive has already written the MBR.
Doing it from Windows works. It is disconcerting.
By the way, I have had to use "kdesudo ./bootinst.bat" to run bootinst.bat from Kubuntu. I guess that "kdesudo" instead of "sudo" must be used because the script run a GUI program as Konsole.

Testing RC2, congrats, so far so good.
Only thing flash plugin bundled does not work for me.
Tried all archived versions of "libflashplayer.so" by replacing the one in "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins" and the last one that works for me is 11.1.2.63 ...
All the best, Siro

>Regarding bootinst problem:
1st attempt:
Sala@linux:/media/USB Drive/slax/boot> bootinst.bat
If 'bootinst.bat' is not a typo you can run the following command to lookup the package that contains the binary:
command-not-found bootinst.bat
bash: bootinst.bat: command not found
2nd attempt:
Sala@linux:/media/USB Drive/slax/boot> sh bootinst.bat
./bootinst.sh: line 81: fdisk: command not found
*attempting to install bootloader to ....
. is device /dev/sdb1
./extlinux.exe: cannot open device /dev/sdb1
Error installing boot loader.
Read the errors above and press enter to exit...
May be I need another command option?

Excellent job, congrats.
Please, could you add GParted to Slax 7? I really need a partition manager.
Thanks

@Sala - Regarding the 2nd attempt: fdisk is not located on the usb media, so if you opened a terminal at the usb drive and ran bootinst, it will fail. You instead have to run from a regular host system root terminal.
@ceti - You can still run parted from the terminal. parted --help or man parted for more info.

i need help compile apps with command cmake. in slax 7 i didn't know where cmake command locate. maybe cmake not installed. so please tell me where i can download it?

Tomas? Will you ever make something similar to Wubi instaler for Slax?
Thanks.

please can you include kadressbook in slax 7 its is usefull for manage my contact details

The persistent flag (slax.flags=perch) doesn't seem to work with the toram flag.
hXXp://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=view&parentID=82631&anchorid=82631#postid82631

This is my first time using Slax, and I have to say, I am starting to fall in love with KDE. Now there might be some deliberate design decisions I am unaware of my being new to the distro, but I will point out where I felt it lacked.
First off, no wifi. From what I was reading from others, there is apparently no firmware for RTL8192. I suppose it's not a huge issue if you can download the firmware from the Slax website and plug it in.
Another thing I noticed is that there are no touchpad settings allowing me to enable scrolling. I also enabled one click to open files and folders, but it did not seem to work.
There is no suspend or hibernate function. I know this might not be a big deal for some, but I would definitely like to be able to do so, even if it is a USB distro.
It also seems strange to me to not include an email client like Thunderbird. After all, the dicision was made to include Firefox.
The last issue I encountered that caused me a bit of grief was that I got lots of momentary freezing while using the OS. It would freeze up when opening a new browser tab for example. The longest occurences were perhaps 3-4 seconds.
I would love to be able to use the distro exclusively, but the above issues would need to be resolved for me to do so.
I hope this is the right method of filing such reports and I apologize if it is not.

@Terence: the freezing is interesting. How much RAM memory do you have? And how many processors / CPU cores? It may be a lag caused by compressing/decompressing inram structures, else I have no other explanation for that. Thank you for answer.

I have seen that problem before and traced it to the persistance every thing you do is duplicated and it takes time. I just took persistance out of the equation.

Thanks Tomas. Loving the fact that we're incredibly close to a full Slax 7 release. Should be a glorious Christmas this year...
But anyway, tested on a Samsung Netbook and it's a great improvement to Slax 6. All acpi functions work, screen and keyboard also work, touchpad supports multifinger gestures(although I can't configure them anywhere).
The Broadcom wifi chip isn't recognised, but that can be solved with Slackware drivers as recommended by dimitrij.
One problem I encountered (even in Porteus) is that my Video Mode Number is unrecognised. It's 305 and yet there's no 305 on that list. I have to manually select a different mode everytime or wait 30 seconds. Anyway to bypass this?

I've just installed Slax 7 RC2 32bit to an old (and slow) FAT32 formatted pendrive Kingston DataTraveler 2GB. I'm experiencing same freezing as Terence, Firefox is almost unusable. 8GB RAM and 6-core CPU here. I've also installed same version of Slax to even "smaller" 512MB pendrive and Slax was showing that this pendrive had 4GB of space.

Hi Tomas
Really loving slax 7 really good work on it.
I found problem in booting in linux distros,
Tried bootinst.sh to make my flash bootable in ubuntu 12.10 & linuxmint 13 maya, it gives "Boot installation finished."
Then I reboot my pc select my flash to boot
I get error no boot device found,
so I used windows 7 ran booinst.bat rebooted pc slax 7 works fine.
Thank you.

@softy, same problem on Kubuntu (see my message above)
For those who experienced freezes on Firefox, try disabling java and javascripts. I can not test that for now, but I experiment that freezes when Google Instant is used I think.

How I can install a program in Slax 7?
for example, i have Snes for linux and i cant install it :c

hi! very nice to see you working on a new version of slax! Will there be modules like in Slax6, would love to see KOffice and language modules, i know very little about linux, but Gui+script is working and are easy to follow.. big thanks from Sweden!

@Person: where do you select what? :) How 30 seconds help you? I am completely lost. What are you talking about? :)

@Hiraion: While the script txz2sb is not created, you need to download the txz package and run:
mkdir /tmp/module-folder
installpkg -root /tmp/module-folder your_package.txz
dir2sb /tmp/module-folder /tmp/your_package.sb
rm /tmp/module-folder --recursive
I did not try these commands yet. Tell me if you have any problems with them.

@Tomas With regards to freezing I mentioned, I have 8GB of system memory and a Core i5. There might be a distinct possibility that the USB drive is not as high speed as might be necessary, but it is a Kingston model so my first inclination wasn't towards that end.
In any case, I love how crisp and clean the kicker is without it being loaded with programs.

@Terence:
please try to run Slax without persistent changes - in the slax boot menu (black screen with one green clover image at the center of screen) press Esc, you have 4 seconds to do that. A menu will appear, unselect "Persistent changes" option and press Enter on the Run Slax menu.
If you start Slax this way, is the freezing gone? Thank you

Thanks for the replay, Tomas.
The Video Mode thing I'm talking about is this(please remove spaces):
ht tp://i79.photobucket.co m/albums/j142/Medox2006/Screens/312vm.jp g
ht tps://en.wikipedia.or g/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions#Other_commonly_available_graphics_modes
However, I solved the problem by adding vga=normal to the boot parameters.

Thank you very much Person, this helps very much, mainly the wikipedia article. I'm using vga=773 in Slax. According to wikipedia, it is a standard VESA mode and should be supported everywhere. It seems your particular computer doesn't support it.
Would you please try vga=772 and vga=791 and vga=792 and let me know which one works and which one doesn't? Your help will be very valuable since we should be able to find even more universal setting for Slax. Thank you!

Hi Tomas.
Perhaps the permissions on /etc and /dev/null need fixing please?
The etc directory in 04-kde.sb to have the same permissions as etc in the other bundles, and I also had to do: chmod go+rw /dev/null both when trying to use kdesu and su, eg:
useradd webuser -m -d /home/webuser -G audio,video -p ""
kdesu -u webuser firefox
Thanks.

safe vesa mode is vesa=normal
but some newest graphic board doesnt support 640x480

Thanks for the troubleshooting, Tomas.
I've tested the vga codes you mentioned and the outcome is the same in all of them. I'm asked to wait 30 seconds before the Kernel picks my default resolution(which is 1024x600).
The "Unidentifed Video Mode Number" in case of vga=773,772,791,792 is 305,304,317,318 respectively, in case it helps.
I wonder if it has something to do with Samsung's "Easy Resolution Manager" which is a Windows software to raise the virtually increase the screen's resolution. See below(remove space):
ht tp://tinyurl.com/b5zfmsa

Is it possible to craft universal 32bit and 64bit image? I prefer to use 64 bit system, but have a ton of 32bit only PCs.

really great... more than i expected....
problem with flash player
works fine on laptop ACER 7730z
but doesn't work at all on old AMD sempron 2500+ deskop
with n-vidia 5200,
which i use as home media center.
Any suggestions?...
slax is my little pocket office for a couple years.
keep up the good work Tomas ;)

I just downloaded a version of Slitaz with QT in 38 MB. Is that possible?
I know it is I am typing from it right now.
It is a different type of distro and it has problems with the AMD motherboards.
Other than that is a curiosity by itself, it uses arora as a web browser. But not my cup of tea.

@ralcocer
I'm running razorqt in Slax-7 right now. I just grabbed openbox and razorqt from ponce's site. It's not perfect yet, as I still need the kdeps.sb in order to run it. I'll probably track down what's needed from the kdeps and add them.
roadie

There is also a precompiled binary available, Don't know if Tomas will like it tough. It will make Slax even smaller.

I have a toshiba ultraslim z930 laptop with intel core i5.
1) My graphic card, VGA Intel Ivy Bridge was satisfied out of the box with slax 7.
2) However wifi was not.
bash-4.2# dmesg | grep iwlwifi
...
iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-2030-6.ucode' failed.
iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-2030-5.ucode' failed.
...
@dimitrij:
Thanks for the wifi install procedure (post 40). As I had to go for the other post to get it, here is the link for the wifi drivers is at git.kernel.org
I agree with fanthom, wifi compatibility is not a luxury. On slax forum, almost one tenth of the posts where to answer graphic and wifi cards compatibility.
Thanks Tomas for this nice and up to date slax 7. :D

Hi Tomas,
I have a problem with slax, my notebook (HP 6150BR) has a Radeon 6750M and everytime i try to boot this screen appear when the boot finish:
ht tp://dl.dropbox.c om/u/553996/IMG_20121119_170532.jpg
the white square at the botom is the mouse cursor.
Even if i change the vga mode, or uncheck the graphic mode, the result is the same.
This graphic is not so good under linux, but on ubuntu it appears fine.

Thank you Andre for bug report. Actually I don't have the hardware to fix the problem myself, so I'll need to wait for somebody who has it and is able to fix it and submit the fix to me.

@Tomas
"so Ill need to wait for somebody who has it and is able to fix it and submit the fix to me."
i have pointed you to the right direction twice already!
here you go 3rd time (repeating myself from above):
"i see that you are still against including kernel-firmware package in the slax which would solve all wireless and radeon GPU driver issues (yes - kernel firmware include also fw for GPU cards, look at /lib/firmware/radeon folder from kernel-firmware package)."
cheers

@fanthom: sorry for me being so ignorant :) I simply do not want to make Slax 20MB bigger just to include the package kerner-firmware, while it does NOT resolve many driver issues, there were reports of missing firmware even if the package was included in a short period of Slax testing here.
I am open to include the radeon firmware in Slax, since it is 50KB compressed. I am even open to include many of the small firmwares. Yet I am not sure if the big firmwares are worth. If Slax has possibility to download that separately, it should be simply enough.

What good is it to have a Distro that cannot connect to wireless, it is useless since everybody is wired why just don't make the module and everybody is happy and wired.

nice - so once radeon issue is finally resolved you should think about adding broadcom-sta driver by default to slax-7.
it's 2-3MB uncompressed but definitely worth it as many notebooks has broadcom chipsets and kernel support is still lacking.
i do realize that you probably wont do it (as "size matters!") but i'm not going to repeat that over and over again.
btw: i never asked you for including full 'kernel-firmware' package as stripped one in Porteus is under 4MB and covers 95% of wifi chipsets out there. not sure about the right number but at least i haven't seen any wifi related bug report for a long time...
"there were reports of missing firmware"
must be an user fault or missing broadcom-sta driver.
Cheers

I like Slax 7 bit very much
I tried 32 bit version in Virtual Box, but now I booted it from flash. I made it in Slackware64 with bootinst.sh - it works OK.
Also tried wifi - older ipw2200 works OK, but for newer RTL r8712u I have to add firmware to Slax.

Just a small thing - when you download something with Firefox and in the Download manager choose to "Open containing folder", it should open the folder in Dolphin. But instead it asks you to choose an application for opening the folder.

@ralcover: I like your interventions. However, in the last one there are many negatives.
So if I understand you meant no need for wifi within slax standard. Provide it as a separate module.
Hum, I understand that you don't go around with your desktop. :) You don't mind spending much time on providing solutions for those with wifi problems on the forum.
Wifi wise, the proposition of fanthom "4MB and covers 95% of wifi chipsets" seems very attractive.

@francois I do understand the need for wifi as a standard and I do understand the opposition by Tomas not to include them, so the next best thing is to have it as a module. It's to bad that the developer has a different agenda than that of the users. I cannot use Slax in my laptops and my other Desktop because of drivers. I run a modified version of Porteus with a modified LXDE from Source and modified to run the Arduino environment.

Just do not include the games in Slax, if you need space for firmware. I think games aren't essential - if someone wants to play games, they can always install them as a module.

If you have working internet connection, you can download and install additional software. But if you run Slax and your network card doesn't work, you are screwed...
I think it was in SystemRescueCD or similar small live distro - when the user wanted Firefox browser, there was an item in the menu, which downloaded and installed Firefox automatically. Slax could have such an option for various larger software. Just like the online activation of modules in the old Slax 6.
But without working internet, Slax would be useless...

The main problem with drivers (firmware or kernel modules) is that there will always be some drivers missing. ALWAYS. And while keeping that in mind, I am a bit conservative regarding making Slax 20MB bigger while it will NOT include all drivers anyway.
I'm going to add most of the small firmwares plus some wifi-related ones which are not huge, and the rest should be available as module, or even directly configurable on web - you choose to download Slax, and yet you choose to include big firmwares in your build automatically.

Speaking of drivers:
Please add the brcmsmac driver. Slax has the brcmfmac driver, but it covers just the half of Broadcom chip variant; brcmsmac gets the other half. Required kernel options below:
tinyurl.com/dy5xlto
thx in advance.

Slax is mostly using Slackware's config. Why is not the driver enabled in Slackware's config at the first place? Here I have to trust Patrick he knew why he disabled it. Or he forgot, or made mistake. I dunno

Once the permission bug was fixed in the bootinst.sh script, Slax7 loaded up cleanly. Slax7 copies to ram very fast, but KDE loads really slow.
New Slax doesn't recognize my eeepc 701c 800x480 display (Mode 305?) so I start it up in 640x480x32 and everything is OK. KDE does speak 800x480, just not automatically. 7 works much better than 6.2 at configuring my desktop monitor using the same netbook.
Getting Slax6 to run on my eee took a lot of tweaking. Slax7 works where it matters (network, wifi, basic display) right away.
I still have to figure out how to configure my trackball to be left-handed, but keep the touchpad configuration right-handed. Also, I add 'noswap' to the boot parameters (I always copy to RAM) but I don't know if it matters or helps.
Thanks again, the progress is impressive.

@ralcover: the wifi could come on stock slax 7 in a independent bundle calle 08-drivers.sb. This way you could remove it easily from the the os. ;)

@francois.e That sounds great as I have several Laptops that need the Wireless drivers. I already scavenged about 6, 4 more to go.

To run Chrome as root in the chrome script in the last line add '--user-data-dir'
exec -a "$0" "$HERE/chrome" "$@"--user-data-dir
Let me know if it works, it does for me.

Going to get a girlfriend by Christmas break #determined

Has anybody began to produce modules for the 64bit edition? Libreoffice or openoffice would be appreciated?

@Liquid Snake:
Thanks for the bundle command instructions in post 69. They work perfectly fine.
